Reflection about its meaning
In my education, I was not taught about the legacy of residential school and the displacement Indigenous peoples faced when Europeans “discovered” Canada. This is wrong on so many levels. Indigenous peoples were here long before the settlers, and endured unimaginable hardship. This is the truth and as an educator, it is my duty to teach the true history of Canada to assist reconciliation. More importantly it is important for me to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment; where everyone belongs and thrives.
